I caught a show awhile back... couple months ago, at least. Here's the honest opinion of someone who loves the style of music you guys play and loves to play themselves.
Stop doing covers. You guys don't do them any justice. I almost cried when you guys destroyed "I stand alone" Your singer stutters slip-shod through the lyrics and ruins the song. The tempo was off, but most people do that when they're still doing gigs and don't have a shit ton of experience. I'm guilty of it, so I can't say too much, just figured I'd point it out.
If you're going to insist on doing covers, keep in mind that your choice of songs to cover is just as important as how you perform them. What kind of band are you? Are you the kind that likes to play the music they like to play and fuck what anyone thinks of it? Or do you try to play for your audience? Either way will score you points with different demographics. Figure out who you're trying to appeal to and play shit they like. I heard you guys do some fairly obscure stuff, that while it's well-respected by us metalheads... probably was all but unknown to a lot of the crowd that was at the show. And don't play stuff by bands that just can't be emulated... you see very few bands doing AC DC, and the ones that do, do it poorly. No one can do the voice. Jackyl is the same way. If I was you, I wouldn't go there.
And please please please... if you're gonna do "Man in the Box" learn the fucking lyrics.

Just a quick reply, as I am short on time right now (but rest assured I will comment further), the show you were at was at a benefit concert for a buncha junior high kids (fitting you were there). We spent a lot more time out interacting with the kids than worrying about our performance. Yea, it was rough. But you keep it going when you have 10 kids up there playing your bass with you, fuckin' up the drummer (cuz, as I'm sure the musician that you are knows this, the drummer & bass player key off each other if they're worth a shit). We didn't care. The kids had the best time in the world, & THAT was what was important. Obscure songs??? Out of 50+ songs we do, only ONE can be considered obscure...Red Hot by Motley. We don't routinely play for kids, so I'm sure a bunch was unknown to them, but they didn't care...neither did we. And you worry about lyrics when you have kids...hell, people singing with you on stage, & screamin' & havin' a ball, cuz we ain't gonna do it. Oh, & I dunno just what kind of bands you DO go see, but EVERYONE does AC/DC, poorly or otherwise.....dumbass. Besides, love our singer or not, he does great on AC/DC & Jackyl...tone-deaf dumbass.
Just a but for everyone else (besides "jackylfan", who has been the one to view this post 15 of the 19 himself...ahhh I love the admin button): I know this guy. I love reviews, good OR bad (bad press is good press), so if you didn't like our show, or us, don't let my replies to this jackass stop you from posting them. Like I said, I know who he is. I double checked, but I just KNEW when it was posted who it was. There's a GREAT story there, which I just might share sometime in "J's Story-time in the PIT", and he deserves everything he gets.
PS: I fucking HATE man in a box, so interacting w. the kids aside, I will do nothing to further my knowledge of THAT song.....dumbass.
I edited some of this for one person, & one person only. I stand by what I said, you know what I said, you know it's true.

Let's clear something up right now... "jackass"
You don't know me. If you knew me, you'd know enough about me to understand that if I wanted to do something on the internet and not have it come back on me... it wouldn't happen.
Anyway... how about you cross reference the ip addresses of these posts? Unless whoever our instigator is was clever enough to both gain my ip address... and spoof it, it's not me.
So go ahead and share your stories. Spread your propaganda and sleep well at night having told yourself that I deserve whatever I get. Know this, I have not, and will not sink to your level.
My problem is not with you or your band. Rock on. I actually liked most of your selections, and while I won't be frequenting your shows (for obvious reasons) I hope you guys do well. I know it's a rush.
"She's only 15?" I'm a sick fuck..? Let's not go there. If you're man enough to admit to the misunderstanding, then I'm man enough to forget you said that shit.

heh heh...man enough...listen to you! So cute when you're all mad and stuff!
....I don't WANT you to forget anything.
And don't worry. Everyone who cares, in fact, everyone period, already knows this story. There's no offers for the book deal or a movie of the week. There's only 2 people that think it's a happy story...or an OK one anyway. Everyone else just gets sick.
And there is no level to sink to to reach mine. I simply stood up for m' band. Explained some things. Had some fun with it. You on the other hand.... _____..... _______..... ________.......
If you, in fact, aren't also Jackylfan, & as the almighty 8-ball says "all signs point to yes", then I DO owe an apology. For that. So, if jackylfan is NOT threadreaper, I apologize jackylfan for tarnishing your review. But on the bright side, it IS so much more interesting now, eh?
Anyway, I'm tired....& bored. I might just delete this whole thread, minus the review of course....I might not. I dunno. Depends if I'm still in a bad mood tomorrow. Depends if my singer can slip-shod through his tongue and talk me into it. Or if I'm man enough to let it stay.....OK I almost kept a straight face. almost. Besides, Jackylfan put so much thought into the review, felt really strongly about it, spent a lotta time thinking about how to sting, which I can appreciate (but so much better when ya just let it come), that it'd be a shame not to at least leave that intact, eh?

jackylfan: of course you have a right to your own opinion but your review sounds like a personal attack against the band instead of constructive criticsim. i've heard these guys and they do a great job, especially for not being together all that long!!! sure, they're going to make some mistakes along the way but everybody does! as for song choices, they play what the audience likes and not just what they like. i've heard a lot of rock bands and everybody plays AC/DC, the crowd loves it no matter what age group they fall under cuz it's great rock music!
hey threadreaper, if your 'problem' isn't with the band...then why in the fuck are you posting shit on here? we, the fans, are here to read about what people think of the band, it's not an 'air your personal shit' page!

Ya know, what's really funny, amazed? this threadreaper guy sure jumped on me like I attacked him, eh? THere was nothing personal in anything I said in my 1st reply, & in fact, the only thing I edited out was a 3 word song lyric. That's it. So if threadreaper isn't jackylfan isn't threadreaper isn't retarded, why would this threadreaper sign up with a "new" account & automatically defend himself from my "propoganda"? Which takes me back to my original point, I didn't say shit other than defend my brothers. Nothing hinting at any story, any names, any guilt......Hmmmm.....Sound like a guilty conscience? I dunno, you make the call. oh, wait, I DID call him a dumbass...twice. But to your point, it does kinda sound personal, eh? But I guess in this business all the crazies come out of the woodwork. Makes the job so much more fun wouldn't ya say? Like Nikki Sixx said, " without conflict we'd all be pretty bored". In fact, I think I may use that on m' profile..... thanx 4 the support, amazed!

you know better than to ask for my opinion unless you truly want it...so here goes: i think jackylfan and threadreaper are the same person. it's not just what he says, it's how he says it. sounds like he's trying to defend himself about something, has a guilty conscience about something. people who are in that 'state of mind' tend to attack and that's how both posts sound to me. threadreaper-- "my problem isn't with you or the band." then who the fuck is it with? and why make that statement on the review page? it all sounds like a personal issue to me, and this is NOT the place for it!!!
all kinds of crazies do come out in the music business! keeps it interesting don't you think? yeah, this world would be pretty boring without conflict and craziness. my question is this: do 'us' rockers get more of it than others cuz people assume we're bad people? we're not bad people....we just know how to have a lot more fuckin' fun than other people.....lol!!! if that makes me a bad person, so be it...not going to change for anybody. and bless my brothers and sisters who are right along with me!!!
with ya brother!

hey jackylfan, if you aren't threadreaper then i apologize. but i don't apologize for saying that your comment sounds like a personal attack on the band. people in the music business are like family and try to help each other with constructive criticism, not bash each other. that's how you learn, how you become a better musician/ band. as a musician yourself you should understand that! everybody has to start somewhere and 99.9% of the time that's not going to be at the top. getting to the top comes with experience. no, these guys don't have a lot of experience but must be doing something right when they are fronting for bands like van zant and squint, and are getting air time on the radio!
emulating and singing songs of a band are two different things. these guys aren't trying to emulate anybody, they're singing songs that they like and people want to hear. i happen to believe that nobody will ever sound like nirvana, but there sure are a lot of people out there singing their songs anyway. some do a pretty good job while others butcher the fuck outta the songs. but, at least they have the balls to try!
most of the time anyway, when people go to see a band play they know what kind of music they play. sure, they can mix-it-up a little here and there by playing something different but sticking to their genre is what works best for the crowd. let me give you an example. when i pay to see a rock band i want rock music and not country, metal, whatever. god forbid i'd have to listen to an hour of the panic channel singing country! they are an awesome band and i'm sure would do great at singing some country but i know they are rock/ alternative, so keep it that way!!!
so do me a favor, keep whatever jealousy or whatever hostility you have towards other musicians, not just 12 Years Coming, to yourself! there's no room for it in this business!!! a word from the wise...somebody is always going to be one step ahead of you in this 'game' so go out and do your best, that's all that really matters!!!

ya know what's so fuckin' funny, DB? I love how people keep sayin' we just don't have experience, but can I tell a little secret? We've been doin' this for almost 15 years LOL. It's just the band that's new. & I have to admit, it takes time to get completely comfy w. each other, so I suppose in that respect, we are a bit inexperienced.....as a band. ya wanna know what else is funny, amazed? we do "Folsom Prison Blues" LMAO! Don't get much more country than that! You are truly one of our bestest fans, by the way! You & Chris prob'ly hafta take the top honors....no, my youngest takes top (he knows the words to our songs better than Joe), but you're close!

OUCH! the 'not having much experience' is about the band, not you guys as individuals. when you told me you had only been together a few months i was blown away! the instrumentals, vocals, and stage presence were awesome, what you'd see in a band who has been together for years! i KNEW then it was only the beginning of great things to come for you guys!!!
about country music at a rock concert... i like some old country songs done by rock bands; such as you guys doing Folsom Prison Blues. and yeah, i'll even go as far as to say that i usually like the rock bands version better than i did the orginal. but i don't like a straight hour of it, and prefer an upbeat song with a rock twist/ flair. so are we cool about it?
i'd like to think i'm your bestest fan but have to admit that i'm not. of course your family will always be first, as it should be! as for chris, he's been around a lot longer than i have. but....i think i win cuz i went topless for ya'll! bty, it took a helluva lot of scrubbin' to get the marker off my tits...lol! oh but, chris took a beer bottle to the head. ok, ok...we're tied for second! question is: what's it gonna take for me to have that spot alone?
